Local junior football team, Trawden Celtic Under 14s, are trialling a new deal that team coaches are hoping will give them the edge over opponents.
The East Lancashire League side has signed up to a new group fitness membership launched by Pendle Leisure Trust, so the lads can enjoy the numerous benefits of unlimited swims, several junior classes including Taekwondo and Junior Boxercise, teen gym sessions, plus use of the running track at Seedhill Athletics and Fitness Centre in Nelson.
Team Manager, Julian Jordan, said: “I wanted to do fitness training with the lads, but thought they’d appreciate a more social and enjoyable way of training, so I approached Pendle Leisure Trust, who were really positive and enthusiastic.
“We got 10 of the lads to sign up straight away and even siblings and our other teams at Trawden Celtic are now looking to sign-up.
“As group members, they can enjoy brilliant facilities with their mates and an annual membership has been reduced to £80 – which works out at just £6.60 a month!
“I want the lads to get the bug and see fitness as a lifelong pursuit, but more selfishly, I’m hoping the extra fitness work gives them the edge in matches and Trawden Celtic climb the league table.”
Pendle Leisure Trust’s Operational Manager, Quammer Iqbal, added: “We are very focussed on the well-being and fitness for young people in Pendle and therefore work hard to provide great facilities for this age group.
“The life skills young people learn from keeping fit always benefit them throughout life. As well as providing excellent facilities, we also have to make them affordable and therefore we have introduced these competitive prices.”
