One of our wonderful Activo Members, Lisa Ross spoke to us recently about her experience at Pendle Wavelengths, Nelson. Joining up 6 years ago with a friend, the two of them continue to attend the Adults Only Swimming sessions 6 times a week! Lisa told us that most of her motivation comes from going with a friend, but also the community that she has found herself in at the leisure centre since attending. Here at Pendle Leisure Trust, we often hear this referred to as the Activo Family, and Lisa couldn't agree more. The swimming groups at Pendle Wavelengths will often stay for a cup of tea and a natter after their sessions, and anyone is welcome! The social and wellbeing aspect of leisure is as much important as the physical, and we're huge advocates of that at PLT.
Suffering from a number of chronic health conditions including Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Osteoarthritis, Lisa tells us that the pool has been invaluable in improving her overall health. Before starting her Activo journey, she could only work 20 hours per week, but now manages to work full-time due to spending her mornings in the pool and feeling supple enough to do a full day's work. And therefore to Lisa, the pool is magic!
Lisa also highlighted the importance of the ease of the pool at Pendle Wavelengths. With our sloping 'beach' area, our pool can accommodate those with mobility issues who may struggle to get in and out of the pool via steps. But also allows those in wheelchairs to be easily and safely escorted down the slope into the water. People visit our pool for all kinds of reasons and there is never any judgement. Whether you want to swim, walk in water, or complete an aqua aerobic workout at the side of the pool, our adult sessions will accommodate and support your goals.
