Do you have any spare seeds hanging about at home or in your garden shed that you would like to donate to the Good Life Project?
The Good Life Project is a therapeutic horticultural programme managed by Pendle Leisure Trust and funded by the Big Lottery’s Community Fund.
Based at Hodge House Allotments, Reedyford Road, Nelson, the community allotment aims to help adults with mental health issues integrate back into the community, by growing plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables, wood-working, arts and crafts and general gardening.
The Good Life Project needs seeds to be able to deliver activities for its beneficiaries as it is now widely known horticulture is extremely beneficial for people’s health and well-being and Pendle Leisure Trust’s mission is to provide lifestyle improvement and wellness opportunities to the community through the services it provides.
A selection of flower seeds have already been donated by gardener and television presenter Sarah Raven, mail-order gardening company Thompson and Morgan and community group Allotments of Redcar.
The Good Life Project Manager, Kathy Titterton, said: “Through donated seeds - no matter how small - we will be able to continue and develop a wide range of activities for the community. This will allow people to develop their horticultural skills, increase their confidence and develop communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills. Also, spending time in group sessions allows new friendships to be made, thereby reducing isolation.”
Seeds can be sent to: Kathy Titterton, Number One Market Street, Nelson, Lancashire BB9 7LJ or dropped off at one of the Trust’s leisure centres - Pendle Wavelengths, Nelson; Pendle Leisure Centre, Colne or West Craven Sports Centre, Barnoldswick.
