Pendle Leisure Trust’s Good Life Project is up for the Demonstrating Social Impact Award in the Community Leisure UK Awards 2020.
These awards recognise outstanding achievement in sport, leisure and culture and showcase the outstanding ability of staff to make a positive difference in their local communities.
The community project came runner-up in 2017 when the awards were first introduced – this year staff and volunteers are hoping to clinch the title.
The winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony on December 1st at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester.
The Good Life Project is a therapeutic, horticultural programme run by Pendle Leisure Trust and funded by the Big Lottery – Reaching Communities Programme. Its main aim is to get people out of the house and in to a safe and non-judgemental environment, while benefitting from being out in the fresh air, being close to nature and learning new skills.
It gives people a chance to grow their own produce and help to develop skills such as nurturing, caring, concentration and co-operation in a fun, friendly and healthy environment at Hodge House Allotments, off Reedyford Road in Nelson.
Project Manager, Kathy Titterton, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen as a finalist for this award, which demonstrates work done by a Trust to deliver a high-quality intervention to help isolated and inactive individuals with mild and moderate mental health conditions improve their confidence, skills and well-being and integrate them into their local community.”
