Rediscover Pendle's history!

Friday, 30th October 2015

Pendle Leisure Trust has received £45,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help launch a project aimed at rediscovering some key pieces of Nelson’s history.

Now, the project needs your help to collect and create a visual insight into the clothing worn during the 1950s to the 1980s in and around the Pendle area.

The project kicks off on Friday 6th November 11am – 2pm, where an open day will be held at The Shop, (The Old Post Office, The Victory Centre, Nelson). Individuals of all backgrounds and cultures are being called upon to help piece together this exciting heritage project.

The Pendle area boasts a rich tradition in the cotton industry and clothing in the area has been celebrated in equal measure. The cultural and historical background of the town means that the clothing worn will vary in colour, shape, style and design with some interesting discoveries expected to be unearthed.

An Expert historian and artist will be on-hand to guide volunteers and will share the stories of what previous residents would wear at weddings, first dates, job interviews and more.

Kirsty Rose, Arts Development Manager said: “We are confident that the stories collected will be an interesting, informative and creative way to celebrate the cultural history of Pendle.”

Would you like to get involved in the project? Head down to The Shop on November 6th or email Carmela.Manta@pendleleisuretrust.co.uk to find out more.
