Harry Astin

Fitness Instructor Harry will be partaking in Europe’s Toughest Mudder. This year the event will be taking place in Yorkshire at Broughton Hall and so he couldn’t pass up the opportunity for a challenge, after already completing a 15k Tough Mudder challenge previously. However with this being the ‘Toughest’ Mudder, the course involves 12 hours of non-stop obstacle course challenges where Harry will aim to do as many 5-mile laps as he can between the hours of 8pm to 8am. This is not for the faint hearted! He has chosen to complete the course to raise money and awareness for MIND, the mental health charity, in order to spread awareness of mental health issues in young adults.

Harry’s main goal for completing this challenge is to raise awareness and want to spread the message of “Speak with those in your life that might be struggling. In the modern world mental health is more important than ever, we can be our own worst enemies at times therefore I feel that MIND and charities like it are a cause worth championing.”

You will usually spot Harry in an around Pendle Wavelengths so be sure to give him support and encouragement for his upcoming challenge!

Mark Bottomley & Caitlin Bottomley

On 7th June, our Fitness Instructor Mark will be completing the Great North Swim at Lake Windermere with his daughter, Caitlin, who is also a lifeguard at Pendle Leisure Centre. Their goal is to raise money and awareness for Target Ovarian Cancer. The two have been training at Pendle Leisure Centre pool, regularly attending our Swim Fit lessons to improve their stroke, as well as some open water swimming to prepare for the challenge.
You will usually see Mark at Seedhill Athletics and Fitness Centre and Caitlin at Pendle Leisure Centre. They would appreciate any encouragement and support as they build up to the big event.

Isla Armstrong & Luke Allwood

Fitness Manager Luke Allwood and Customer Focus Manager at Pendle Leisure Centre Isla Armstrong are taking part in a Deka event on 25th May. Deka is a functional fitness challenge that tests both strength and cardio by completing 10 different functional zones as fast as possible.

This will be the duo's first Deka competition. They have decided to do it as a pair so that reps and distance are split between them, before they go again in July with an individual event. They are also gearing up for their first HYROX event later this year! There’s no stopping these two!

Both Luke and Isla share a passion for fitness and have found that their strengths complement one another. To prepare for the challenge, they have been training most days at Pendle Leisure Centre, as well as some outdoor activities when the weather has been kind. If you see them around the centres, be sure to show some support for these two. We can’t wait to see how they get on
