Pendle Leisure Trust Joins National Programme to Encourage Children to get Active

Monday, 15th January 2018

Pendle Leisure Trust has become a Learning Destination for Children’s University.

This is the latest concept to get children up and active outside school hours – and reward them for their efforts.

Children’s University is a national programme that provides 5 to 14 year olds with exciting and innovative learning activities and experiences outside normal school hours.

Pendle Leisure Trust is offering a whole host of activities across its numerous facilities, including Marsden Park Golf Course, the Muni Theatre and its three sports centres – Pendle Wavelengths, Pendle Leisure Centre and West Craven Sports Centre.

Children will be rewarded for their participation in voluntary learning activities that will develop their skills and raise aspirations for the future. With Pendle Leisure Trust, they will be rewarded for participating in extra-curricular activities, such as swimming lessons, sports and classes including Taekwondo, Boxercise and Circuits, learning to play golf, taking part in dance festivals and attending holiday clubs during the school holidays.

Learning Destinations are places and organisations that children 'travel' to with their Passport To Learning, where they collect stamps and record their hours of learning every time they take part in an activity.

At the end of the academic year, all the students who have collected the required amount of stamps, will be invited to attend a graduation ceremony, and complete with cap and gown, will receive a certificate of achievement.

Pendle Leisure Trust’s Operational Manager, Quammer Iqbal, said: “We are committed to people’s health and well-being, and this includes the younger members of our community.

We also know that young people like to be recognised for their efforts and achievements. This is the reason we have partnered up with Children’s University, as this initiative will encourage young people to try new activities, to get fit and active outside school hours and it will hopefully raise their aspirations.”
