Every home in Pendle will have received a postcard promoting Pendle Community Support Hub – a crucial service for vulnerable residents who don’t have any family or friends nearby.
Around 41,500 postcards have been posted through household letterboxes highlighting how the service can help during the coronavirus outbreak.
The Hub is run by Pendle Council, in partnership with Pendle Leisure Trust and supported by Burnley and Pendle Community and Voluntary Service (CVS) and other local organisations and volunteers.
Councillor Mohammed Iqbal, Leader of Pendle Council, said: “Together we’re helping vulnerable residents to make sure that they are not isolated and can access what they need.
“In addition to getting food deliveries and prescriptions, we can help with dog walking, mental health issues and dealing with social isolation and loneliness, as well as financial and debt advice.”
Since the Hub opened at the end of March, it has helped almost 900 people.
Alison Goode, Chief Executive of Pendle Leisure Trust, said: “We are really pleased to be supporting Pendle Council and playing our part in helping the local community during this very difficult time.
“We have a dedicated team – including reception staff, beauty therapists and swimming and gym instructors – answering phone calls and emails seven days a week. Everyone is doing a brilliant job and we are proud to be able to help some of the borough’s most vulnerable residents.”
Dean Langton, Chief Executive of Pendle Council, added: “As well as being available for people to contact us, we’re also actively contacting thousands of vulnerable residents directly to see if we can help. Many don’t need our support, but we’re here seven days a week for those who do.
“I’m very proud of Pendle Community Support Hub and thank everyone who has volunteered to help provide this much-needed service. Together we are making a big difference at this very difficult time.”
The Hub is openMonday to Friday 9am to 4pm and 10am to 3pm Saturday and Sunday. If you, or a vulnerable person you know, could do with some help you can get in touch by calling (01282) 661743 or emailing helpneeded@pendle.gov.uk
