Mayor of Pendle’s Walking Football Charity Challenge

Thursday, 1st February 2018

Pendle Leisure Trust’s Up and Active team is organising a Walking Football Challenge in aid of the Mayor of Pendle’s Charity.

While the Mayor of Pendle, Councillor David Whalley, was talking to members of the Up and Active team about the sport, he suggested a game between himself and a group of councillors - and anyone else who wanted to get involved in a competition to raise money for his fund.

The Mayor’s Walking Football Challenge Trophy will be held on Sunday, February 18th at Primet Academy in Colne. It costs £5 per player to enter, with all money raised going towards his chosen charities - The Pendle Park Friends Groups.

The day will kick-off at 9am with an hour for anyone who wants to know more about the game and give it a go. This will be followed by the group stages for the Mayor’s Challenge Trophy, and in between there will be a one-off fun game between the Mayor and a group of his friends versus a group of Pendle Councillors, which should provide lots of entertainment for the spectators!

While the football competition is going on in the indoor sports hall, there will be plenty of family entertainment and refreshments served in the small hall.

Adrian Lamb, from Pendle’s Up and Active team said: “The Mayor has been to watch a number of times at Primet Academy to try and understand the game, then he came up with the idea of the competition as a way of raising money for his charity.

“This will be a good opportunity for anyone wanting to know more about Walking Football – and have a go – to come along and then stay to watch the competition.

It will be a morning out for the whole family, while raising money for some local worthy causes at the same time.”
