Introducing The Shop, Nelson's quirkiest new venue

Friday, 24th July 2015

There has been a lot of change in Nelson over the last couple of years so you could be forgiven for not knowing about Nelson’s quirkiest new arts and vintage shop, The Shop!

Situated at the old post office on Scotland Road, The Shop is an initiative run by Pendle Leisure Trust and funded by the Mary Portas High Street Innovation Fund and The Arts Council. Offering a place where you can browse, have a coffee or let your children have a play, The Shop sources much of its produce from a strong contingent of highly talented, local artists.

Nelson has undergone a lot of change over the last couple of years and with that, an emerging arts and culture scene has been born with an abundance of emerging and established artists choosing the town to express their talents.

Kirsty Rose, Pendle Leisure Trust’s Arts Development Manager said: “It’s fantastic to see so many people coming to The Shop and enjoying all of its offerings. We’ve had great feedback from all of those who have come in with many people who haven’t visited Nelson in years coming back just to visit us.”

“The Shop has attracted people back in to Nelson and offers a mixed space for all. Pendle is home to a rising and extremely talented arts scene and The Shop is proving to be a great place to house all of this talent.”

The Shop not only sells handmade work from local artists, it also showcases it. Each month, a resident artist is invited to create their own unique feature in a set space.

Kirsty added: “The vintage aspect of The Shop is also proving popular with a wide range of clothing and retro products available to buy in store.”
