In light of the recent decision by Pendle Borough Council’s Executive not to approve the proposed redevelopment of Pendle Leisure Centre, Pendle Leisure Trust is obviously disappointed with the outcome.

The redevelopment was something the Trust had been researching for over 12 months to improve a tired and underused leisure centre, whilst also trying to bridge the funding gap from the Council.

Over a number of years, the Trust has made many successful investments and has continued to provide first class facilities for the people of Pendle, whilst still achieving the necessary savings imposed by the Council. At the same time, trying to balance the provision of community facilities and activities for all residents, but still having to maximise income by introducing commercial facilities and activities.

Alison Goode, Chief Executive of Pendle Leisure Trust, said: “The Trust however respects the Council’s decision and will continue to work with Pendle Borough Council to endeavour to make the ongoing savings necessary in future years, whilst still maintaining, improving and investing in Pendle’s leisure and sports facilities.

“The Trust is now looking at ways of increasing the utilisation of the sports hall with new initiatives, along with the implementation of a new activity programme to increase what is on offer and attract users to the centre.”
