Burnley Garrick Club has launched a new online series via Facebook and Youtube called 'At Home with The Garrick'.
The project is a platform for local writers, performers and poets to submit and/or perform work, with the aim to tribute Lancashire. The idea is to provide audiences with some online entertainment during such a difficult time.
The Garrick’s Chair, Marilyn Jones, said: “We have missed performing so much that we wanted to do something about it. This series is open to anyone - current members or new - as we are always looking to welcome new people to join our society.
“Until we can perform again at our home venue - The ACE Centre in Nelson – we aim to continue providing online entertainment for as long as the doors are closed - or until we run out of material!”
Project Manager, Lauren Stirzaker-Jackson, said: “We have received lots of pieces so far, including poems and short sketches. We are excited to be able to provide local people with an opportunity to showcase their talents, be that in writing, performing or photography.”
The Garrick’s Publicity Manager, Kevin Kay, added: “We are also appealing for photographs of scenes in and around Pendle which will be used as stills for some of our pieces.”
The local amateur dramatic society is also appealing for donations, as the lack of performances and income have meant the club’s funds are decreasing rapidly. Details of how to donate can be found on their Facebook/Youtube pages.
If you would like to provide a piece of your own, perform or contribute in anyway, please contact lauren.stirzaker@hotmail.co.uk or call 07856784185.
The performance pieces will be shown every Friday at 7pm via The Garrick’s Facebook page (Search Burnley Garrick Club) and Youtube Channel.
