Arts for Well-being Pendle showcased three projects that dealt with mental health in the community at The Good Life Project Allotments, Nelson last week. The exhibition was visited by the Mayor of Pendle Cllr Brian Newman, who enjoyed a tour of the allotments and was visibly enthralled by the projects and their achievements.
The exhibition was a collaboration of art, writing and cooking from three unique projects running in Pendle; Art in the Natural World, Writing for Well-being and Cooking with Kindness.
The Arts for Well-being project has been created to help anyone suffering from mental or physical health-related issues or anyone who feels they want to improve their overall well-being and happiness by harnessing the proven positive effects of creative arts.
CEO of Pendle Leisure Trust Alison Goode stated “Today has been an amazing collaboration of work and it has been great to see so many people celebrating and coming together. It is so important that projects like Arts for Wellbeing and The Good Life Project continue as part of our health and well-being offering to our community”
Project co-ordinator Lauren Jackson said “The artists and I are delighted with the standard of work at this beautiful exhibition. We are so proud of what our participants have achieved, both in their art and their personal lives since joining our courses.
This programme improves people’s lives. I would urge anyone considering joining us to get in touch.”
Feedback received from this round of courses has included participants feeling able to cope with life better, to deal with their problems more effectively, learn new skills, make friendships and even able to start new jobs.
A participant of the Art in the Natural World group said “Since joining the programme I have maintained a routine and this has helped improve my mood by adding some structure to my week. It’s given me something to look forward to. At times I've struggled to engage with the sessions but being in company and having the support of the tutors and fellow participants has made me feel valued.”
If you want to join Arts for Well-being, you can self-refer or be referred by your support worker or social prescriber. No experience is necessary for any of the courses.
