Men's Health Week 2018
Friday, 8th June 2018
Every year, in June, the world celebrates Men’s Health Week – a week where we focus on all things men’s fitness, health and well-being.
This year, the NHS Men’s Health Week campaign is focusing on diabetes and its implications for men, as it’s a disease much more common in men than women.
At Pendle Leisure Trust, we work with Activo members with different motivations for exercise; from those wanting to improve their health and stay active, to those training for sporting events.
For people with diabetes, regular exercise can help control blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
There are also many other benefits to exercising regularly…
- Improved mental health – Exercise can really boost your mental health. It can increase your confidence and self-esteem and it’s also regarded as one of the best ways to fight depression and anxiety. Men who are inactive are said to be 60% more likely to suffer from depression.
- Enhances sleep and energy levels – Exercise contributes to a more restful sleep, as it increases the amount of time we spend in ‘deep sleep’, so you’ll feel well rested when you wake up and have more energy during the day.
- Improved physical health – It goes without saying that working out regularly improves your physical health. Not only can it make a difference to your appearance, but it can make your heart stronger, improve circulation, lower your blood pressure and reduce your body fat.
…to name but a few!
To celebrate Men’s Health Week, we’re offering male gym users the chance to work out at any of our gyms for just £3.40 a session from the 11th to the 17th June (9am-4pm).
