Each year Movember aims to raise awareness for men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. However, if growing a ‘tache isn’t for you, there are plenty of ways you can get involved and improve your own health and well-being too.
‘Move for Movember’ is the challenge for 2020 – run or walk 60kms throughout the month of November - that’s 60k for the men we lose to suicide each hour, every hour across the world.
Whether you prefer a stroll around your local park, a hike up Pendle Hill or a run around the athletics track at Seedhill AFC (or on the gym treadmill if it’s raining), there are plenty of ways you can clock up the miles during November.
If running or walking isn’t your thing, why not take a dip in the pool and add to your 60k target that way?
Although Movember is just one month, it’s important to remember to take care of your health, fitness and well-being all year round. Exercise is not only great for improving your strength and fitness levels, but it’s great for your mental health too.
Exercise releases endorphins (happy hormones) which make us feel good – it’s a real mood-booster – and it’s known to help ease symptoms of depression and anxiety. It’s also great for socialising, particularly if you attend fitness classes.
After this year especially, it’s never been more important to do things that make us feel good. So, whether it’s working out in the gym, pool or at group classes, we’ve got plenty to choose from and we’re sure to have something that suits you.
