Mayor’s Challenge: Train with the Mayor

Friday, 8th February 2019

The Mayor of Pendle has completed his first month of training, fundraising is underway and now there’s a great opportunity for you to join in!

Councillor James Starkie began his challenge on January 7th and has completed three training sessions each week with the help and guidance of Pendle Leisure Trust fitness instructors.

Since the beginning of his challenge, Councillor Starkie has not only adopted a new workout routine, but has altered his diet to help achieve his goal of losing three stones in weight.

Plus, as well as aiming to improve his fitness, the Mayor is also fundraising to help local children improve their swimming skills.

Pendle Leisure Trust Gym Manager, Luke Allwood, said: “So far the Mayor has lost ten pounds in weight in his first month, he’s made great progress. Plus, he’s raising money for a fantastic cause and it’s great to see the support he’s been getting. I’m confident that with our help, hard work and determination, he’ll reach his target by May.”

Councillor Starkie plans on walking up Pendle Hill at the end of his Mayoral year in May, after getting to the top via quad bike the last time he visited the summit.

As well as regular gym workouts, the Mayor is also planning on attending different classes – and you’re invited to go along and join in!

The first class Councillor Starkie will be doing is Aquarhythmics at Pendle Wavelengths on Friday, 15th February at 10am.

Aquarhythmics is an effective, pool-based class which uses water as resistance. It eliminates strain and impact while improving stamina, strength and suppleness. If you’d like to take part, please call Pendle Wavelengths on 01282 661717 to book your place.

Donate here to support Councillor Starkie and raise funds to help children of Pendle learn how to swim.
