Councillor Starkie’s challenge began in the New Year with the help of fitness instructors from Pendle Leisure Trust, who put together workout plans and nutrition guides for the Mayor.
Since the 7th of January, Councillor Starkie has lost 10lbs in weight and has attended three training sessions with the Trust each week, with the goal of losing three stones in total.
As well as training to lose weight and improve his fitness, the Mayor is also aiming to raise £1,000 to help local children who need a little extra help with learning how to swim.
He said: “I know I need to lose weight and this is my first step towards doing something about it. I’ve set myself a series of challenges, which I’m hoping people will support me in, either by joining me during my training or helping me to raise money to enable youngsters with their swimming, as I think it is very important that everyone can do so.”
As well as regular exercising at the gym, his gruelling Pendle Leisure Trust instructors are also adding extra classes, swim sessions and workouts at Seedhill AFC to Councillor Starkie’s regime, and are inviting members of the public and other gym members to join in and improve their own fitness too.
The Mayor of Pendle will be attending gym sessions at Pendle Wavelengths in Nelson from 10am on Mondays and Fridays and from 10am and Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne on Wednesdays, and welcomes anyone who wants to join him.
