With only a month to go to the start of ben to ben, training has been going well.
A typical week’s training for me usually consists of long runs (22 miles), early morning bike rides, intensive gym sessions and even more bike rides ranging between 50-100 mile hill trips!
With the challenge edging nearer, it is really important that I can get as much quality training in as I can through the week - but my rest days are equally as important.
For many the bank holiday weekend offered a chance to rest, but this just gave me more days to train...
The advantage of a four day weekend was the fact that I could get a full day’s cycling in on Friday without work getting in the way! With the weather forecast being nice I did a 60 mile ride that took me to Settle, Malham, Gargrave, Earby and back to Barrowford. The worst part of the route was a 20% hill that took me from Stainforth towards Malham. It was a hill I’d never ridden up before, and I now know why, as I only saw other cyclists going down the hill!
With work getting in the way, I only managed one run this week and that was at 6am on Wednesday morning. My long run this week was planned to be my longest run of my marathon training plan. Sunday morning saw me and Ady Lamb (Pendle Sports Development) running and Paul Whittaker (Pendle Leisure Centre Manager)supporting us on the bike. We set off at 7.30am to run 20 miles. The run took us from Barrowford on the canal to Barnoldswick, Earby, Foulridge, Laneshawbridge, Colne and back to Barrowford. The last few miles were hard on the legs.
This weekend I am heading off to Scotland to ride the Great Glen way with a group of friends. Anything could happen...
