The national campaign aims to encourage women of all shapes, sizes and abilities to get active, with Pendle Leisure Trust offering free, female-only fitness sessions throughout the year at its leisure centres – Pendle Leisure Centre, Pendle Wavelengths, West Craven Sports Centre and Seedhill AFC.
The Trust kick-started the campaign in December 2018 with free swimming and Aquarhythmics classes. Throughout January, the Trust will be offering free, female-only Boot Camp classes at Pendle Leisure Centre in Colne and West Craven Sports Centre in Barnoldswick.
This Girl Can is funded by the National Lottery and offers the message #FitGotReal, which celebrates the creative and unconventional ways that women fit exercise into their busy lives.
Fit Got Real builds on the campaign’s achievements so far and aims to reach out to women of all backgrounds and ethnicities who feel left behind by traditional exercise and prove that judgement, time, money and energy are barriers that can be overcome.
Pendle Leisure Trust’s Chief Executive, Alison Goode, said: “Fear of judgement, lacking confidence, not having enough time or money - there are a mix of practical and emotional pressures that stop many women from being as active as they would like.
“We want to get involved in this fantastic campaign by offering our facilities and some free sessions to help these women get back into exercising.”
