Tai Chi is hugely popular among our Pendle Leisure Trust customers, and 2023 was no exception. Helena and David from Lighthouse Tai Chi host 3 classes at West Craven Sports Centre and 2 classes at Pendle Leisure Centre each week, with classes often building up a waiting list due to demand.
Tai Chi is a gentle, non-competitive activity, where the time you put into learning and practising will see continuous improvement to your health and wellness. Studies on the benefits of tai chi are based on people attending 2 weekly sessions with daily home practice. There are no tests, exams or belts, just keep attending and the benefits will come.
Aqua Tai Chi is great for people who have limited mobility, are recovering from injury or simply enjoy the relaxation of being in the water. These sessions involve real tai chi in shallow water, that are unique to Lighthouse. Helena and David have seen students gain both the benefits of tai chi and aqua exercises and the sessions are now recommended by both local NHS and private physiotherapists.
In 2024, Pendle Leisure Centre’s Wednesday morning classes at 10am and 11am have now been opened to all skill levels. Meaning that you can come along as a complete beginner, right through to welcoming our most experienced customers.
For a bit of reflective fun, Helena and David have taken a look back at the whole of 2023 to show their appreciation for the top attendees across our 2 venues. Lighthouse's top attenders are great ambassadors for the benefits of tai chi. It can be very helpful for beginners, knowing that there are people with experience in a class can make it much easier to get started, enjoy the class, and relax. Lighthouse have been working with Pendle Leisure for 14 years and are experienced in guiding beginners and improvers on their journey to better health. Classes include both tai chi and qigong and are suitable for beginners to join anytime.
Now for a shoutout to our top attendees from 2023!
